Moving Domains – How to Avoid Disasters

I recently moved domains from my old hosting provider to a new one.  My first domain moved fine, but polarcomputer.net and another domain that I owned did not.  Unfortunately, the old provider cancelled my account and I was stuck without e-mail to authorize the transfer.

The biggest single takeaway from these experiences was to have all your domain information point to a domain independent e-mail like a Gmail account or such.  Once I was able to get all the domain information pointed to the new e-mail account, the process was less painful and happened in about a day.

On the other hand, there were plenty of great resources out on the Net to migrate WordPress sites.  A shout out to this link to give me enough information to avoid having to recreate the site.
